The 1953 models continued with few exterior changes.  Again, for the dyed-in-the-wool Chevy person, one small change is a big change.  That is, the hood name plate was replaced by a new series designation plate styled in a very pleasing new contemporary style.

New colors were another important change for 1953.  The regular standard color became Juniper Green with Cream Medium striping, but the purchaser had the choice, at no extra cost, of a range of colors.  These were Ocean Green, Transport Blue, Burgundy Maroon, Coppertone, Autumn Brown and Shell White with harmonizing or contrasting striping.  The name Swift Red was changed to commercial Red without a change in material.  Carried over were Jet Black, Mariner blue, and Cream Medium which completed the 12 colors offered.

A number of changes were made to the Loadmaster engine for 1953, but the Thriftmaster engine was relatively unchanged.  However, the Thriftmaster engine’s connecting rods were strengthened and the spark plug nipples were changed.

Tinted glass was made available as an extra cost option for 1953.  And the rear bumper which had been dropped in 1951 due to material shortages was made available again on ½ and ¾ ton pickups.

A side mounted spare tire carrier mounted at the left side of the pickup box was offered as an extra cost option for ½, ¾ and 1 ton models.  Installing the side mount on the ½ ton model necessitated dishing a small portion of the rear fender to accommodate the tire.
